VASE
VASE - the Visiting Artist & Speaker Endowment was established at Edinboro University, now PennWest University to support a collaboration established in 1999 with the Erie Art Museum (then directed by John Vanco). Each year the university VASE committee works with the museum director to identify and recruit an art world professional to jury the museum’s annual Spring Show, meet with students, and deliver a free, public talk at the university. Professors Lisa Austin, Shelle Barron, Rachel Burke and Charlotte Wellman recognized the importance of providing experiences for students to interact with national level critics, art historians, art educators and artists. To fund this collaboration, a VASE Ball was held to create an endowment. Chaired by Professor Karen Ernst, the 2025 VASE committee members are Professors Mary Elizabeth Meier, Cindy Persinger, Suzanne Proulx and Derek Witucki.
